6 reasons a co-work space is better for you than a coffee shop

1: Less distraction

A coffee shop is a social environment. People are there to talk to one another, catch up on personal stories and news. There is constant chatter and conversation which is very distracting. When you have to focus on your task at hand and complete work which requires concentration, a co-work space is ideal for you as the environment is built for work and not play.

2: Faster internet

While some coffee shops offer internet, it is usually not very fast or has a limited time attached to it. A good co-work space will have extremely fast unlimited internet for you to use.

3: Better energy

Although you may enjoy the vibe at a coffee shop and being surrounded by the buzz of people, it's important to remember that their attention is on themselves (usually inane banter) and they have come for a break in their day, as a distraction. A co-work space is motivated by people who have come to get things done and so the energy is geared toward productivity and accomplishment. The energy is dynamic and industrious and results in a positive effect on your own work endevours.

4: Opportunities to meet like minded people

At a co-work space you are in a room with other people who work for themselves / enjoy flexi work hours / live in a different city / are part of a start up or reinvention of a company / and do things differently. They are not the usual 9 – 5 corporates and they will have a atypical work ethic. There is opportunity to strike up an inspiring conversation, be introduced to one of their other connections or make friends with people from out of town or even those in your own city whom you had never met before. (It’s unlikely to strike up a conversation with a stranger working from a coffee shop – but in a co-work space, it’s a likely probability.)

5: Learning through skill share

As everyone is working on their own company or brand, the skill set in a co-work space is diverse and varied. This provides an excellent platform to learn from one another, to get opinions and contacts for additional out sourced work. At a coffee shop, it would be unusual and irrelevant to ask a waiter to assist you with a photoshop query, but at a co-work space, it’s highly likely that there will be a few designers in the room who can assist you.

There will also be people who offer similar services to you and learning from them provides insight into your package offerings and you are able to share your skills with them too.

6: Collaboration

Co-workers are usually collaborators by nature. They understand that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and through combining their efforts, results are improved. At a co-work space, you are surrounded by a room full of specialists, experts and self defined people, so the opportunity for collaboration is huge. Teamwork, partnerships, group efforts, co-operations, alliances and associations are formed in the perfect environment to foster collaboration: the co-work space.
